Dig out that dangerous wood-burning tool your parents bought you when you were ten. It’s ideal for making these super cute Valentine’s Day gifts. I bought the RÖRT spoons at IKEA and made these Valentine’s Day spoons in 15 minutes. There’s no special preparation except maybe to get your fire extinguisher out and ready to use just in case.

Joking aside, I do recommend having a fire extinguisher near your workspace. It’s always important to be safe. Make a bowl of ice water as well to dip your fingers into if they come in contact with the scorching hot wood-burning tip. Use a soft 6B graphite pencil to write your text on the wooden spoon. A hard graphite pencil, 2B or harder, will create a groove in the wood when pressed hard enough to see well. The groove a hard graphite pencil creates will cause your wood-burning tip to run askew. Anchor your arm on a firm work table to steady your hand as you burn the text on the spoons, be patient, and take your time. I think you will be surprised. It’s way easier than it appears.
