All in Halloween
As a kid, Halloween was usually a cold holiday. The smell of bustling fall leaves filled the air, and a crisp wind nipped at your face. The weather alone contributed to the ghostly spirit of the day.
I was surrounded by clowns my entire childhood, literally and figuratively. My father dressed as a clown and walked his imaginary dog in local parades for years. He approached it with an enthusiastic, kid-like joy. His imaginary dog was even known to pee on passersby via a small handheld siphon pump tucked up his sleeve for special effect.
I was inspired to make these Sugar Skull Dolls after finishing a Dollar Tree Halloween Hack /Sugar Skulls. Sugar skulls are fanciful depictions of the spirits of those who have passed, so think of the colors, flowers, and motifs of your deceased loved ones and use them to decorate your Sugar Skull Dolls.
Halloween was absolutely my least favorite holiday as a kid. Boundless piles of candy didn’t appeal to me, and the sheer thought of walking door to door in a splendid handmade costume that took my parents weeks to construct terrified me. Yet, every year, I was drawn in by the creativity that surrounded the holiday, and little has changed. I’m still lured by the creativity and enjoy sharing my creations. Watch the video below to see this year’s creations, and have a Happy Haunted Halloween.
My husband was right when he said, “I think you should stop. It looks like you’re running a Halloween factory!”
These Dollar Tree burlap pumpkins transformed so easily from simple rustic to retro-vintage Halloween style with just a little black embroidery thread and orange, black and yellow paint. Watch the video below to see how I did it.

I finished the Glitter Sugar Skull - Dollar Tree Hack post so late last night that the lighting in my studio wasn’t adequate to take these photos. I wanted to provide these detailed photos for those of you who want a little inspiration. There are endless ideas on the internet too, and many of them are free to print. Just Google Sugar Skulls and click on Images. A menu will appear below Images. Click on “printable.” You can print out designs and practice squeezing the glitter glue onto them if you want to practice a little first.
