The Spirits of Giving - Vintage Canvas Santas

The Spirits of Giving - Vintage Canvas Santas

I have long been a fan of Santa Claus and started making stuffed Santas many years ago when my husband’s favorite red shorts, thread bare and no longer repairable, were relinquished amid protest and dogged opposition to the trash bin.  My first stuffed Santa payed homage to our beloved cat, B.J., and those treasured red shorts.  My husband pleaded his case for his best-loved shorts, as he snatched them out of the trash.  “You are so… talented,” he said.  “I’m sure you can find some way to use these.”  His red shorts were the genesis for this project, but these Vintage Canvas Santas are much faster and easier to make than that first Santa (pictured below with a Vintage Canvas Santa) and are more versatile.  The Vintage Canvas Santas are subtle, and they work well in a variety of home decors.  This makes them very giftable!

Watch my YouTube video and see how easy this project is to create.

I used my own sketches for this project, but you can use black and white images of Santa Claus, Thomas Nast comes to mind, or transform a photo you’ve taken of Santa in apps like Clips (which comes loaded on iPhone), Sketch Me! or Photo Lab.  I’ve included some examples of each below.  You can also type “turn photos into sketches” in your App Store search bar, and you will discover a glut of additional sketch apps.
