Good-Girl Scout Jacket
It’s hard for some to believe that I was a Girl Scout, but here’s my proof! Looking back, I can understand why some question this, but what’s not surprising are the badges that I earned while I was in Girl Scouts. The badges, Hospitality, Cooking, Embroidery, Pets, Active Citizen, and the concepts they stand for still resonate in me today.
If you’ve read my recent blog “Preserving Memories,” this jacket falls into that category and is a direct result of my inability to get rid of things. My mother was a master historian of my childhood, and she saved this Girl Scout sash with all its badges and pins. I felt horrible throwing it away, but what was I going to do with a sash? It’s not as if sashes are in vogue, so I made this jacket.
The recent dip in Summer temperatures has me yearning to wear jackets and boots and has prompted me to begin planning my winter wardrobe. This good-Girl Scout jacket is definitely at the top of my must-wear list this Fall.
