Put Some Spring in Your Step
These newly felted, daisy boots make me so happy! I found them at Target unadorned, and my first thought was to polka dot tiny, felted, green frogs all over them. I’m a novice at felting. This is only my fourth or fifth project, and felting tiny frogs turned out to be very tedious. The more the wiry wads of green wool took shape the larger the frog got. By the time it looked like a frog, it was three times larger than it needed to be.
My subtle polka dot design had become an apocalyptic frog invasion. There’s a fine line between Stylishly Weird and Crazy Cat Lady, but I was shooting for Stylishly Weird.
To preserve my sanity, I abandon the frogs and embraced garden daisies to maintain a Springtime theme. I cheated a bit and used single-ply and two-ply, felt sheets for the petals. I glued them onto the boot and needle felted the edge to round it over.
The flower stigmas were constructed out of small balls of roving felt and were needle felted together, then I glued them in the center of the petals. In the end, my boots turned out to be somewhere between Stylishly Weird and Crazy Cat Lady, but that’s me. They fit my style perfectly.
Check out my Felting Tutorial Playlist on Youtube and my Pinterest Crafting Board for inspiration and supply links. These boots are no longer available at Target, but H & M has felt, Birkenstock style slides and Zara has felt, ballet flats which would be perfect for this project.
